Have you experienced discrimination against certain breeds of dogs?
Someone recently offended us. It's not a big deal but it made us think about the unfairness of breed-specific legislation and attitudes.
This person told us about an article she read that denigrated cocker spaniels. We got the impression she was implying that our little guy, Leaf, fit into the mold the article had created. Now she has an image of cocker spaniels that is none too flattering.
Here in Minnesota some legislators are trying to pass laws that will make it illegal to have certain breeds of dogs as pets. There is no doubt that violent people train dogs to be violent. Instead of outlawing these types of people, the easier way is to go after all dogs who fit into a category and attempt to ban them.
Where have we heard this type of prejudicial discrimination before? Are all dogs in a breed exactly alike with no individual personalities and proclivities?
We don't think so. And now we'll get off our soapbox and go back to loving and being loved by our little cocker spaniel.
