Treasures that Arrive in Animal Bodies

Rabbits, squirrels, crows, and the occasional duck, among other creatures, inhabit our backyard.  Even though we live in a city environment, it has been a pleasure to welcome the wildlife with their sounds, movements, and the graceful ways they share space with humans.

Our pleasure is increased on early walks around the lake by the flocks of Canada geese flying above us in v-formation, as they honk to each other with their morning news and traffic reports.

In Minnesota it is a tradition for traffic to stop while ducks or geese cross the street.  Often a mother duck with her
ducklings waddling behind her will hold up a line of cars for blocks. Deer-crossing signs remind motorists that deer
have the right of way.  We must all slow down and be careful in case one of these swift animals darts across the highway. It is a respectful way of living here that we appreciate.

How are you sharing your space with animals in the wild?
