Do dogs have a sense of ownership? Do you know a dog with a sense of ownership? Is your pet a party animal?

Do dogs have a sense of ownership?

Allen took our cocker spaniel Leaf to dog park today. Leaf normally has his own ball to chase, but we couldn't find it. So this time, he started doing something new.

He would pick up balls that had either been left in the park or belonged to other dogs. He'd carry these balls to people and drop them at their feet as if to say, "Throw this one for your dog. It's fun!"

He knew none of the found balls were his and didn't try to keep them for himself. He  left the stray balls at people's feet. Like a little party-planner, he attempted to orchestrate activities so everyone would have a good time.

Do you know a dog with a sense of ownership? Is your pet a party animal? Go to our Angel Animals blog this week
(blog.angelanimals.net) and share your thoughts and stories. We'd all love to hear from you.

My little terrier mix Murphy did a surprising thing one afternoon. He was lying a few feet from his border collie friend, Savannah, who at the time was very sick with terminal cancer watching her. Her chew bone was nearby and Murphy got up, walked over to her bone, picked it up, took it over to where Savannah was lying and placed it in front of her. Then he returned to where he had been watching her.

I don't know if my dog has a sense of ownership, but when we have company, Casey feels that she must lean up against them. I think that is her way of welcoming someone, and letting them know that she accepts them.
