Is there a special animal who had a spiritual purpose for choosing to be with you?

In many spiritual writings and teachings it's mentioned that before a soul enters a body, the soul make agreements to meet and interact with other souls. When they meet in this life, the two souls have a sense of rightness about being together.

We believe that animals are souls in furry, fuzzy, and feathery bodies. They make soul agreements to enter a person's life at exactly the right time and to leave it when their spiritual mission is completed. These animals become our spiritual partners in this life and meet us again in heaven.

We've received many stories from people who adopted animals and couldn't shake the feeling that the decision had been mutual. Others have written to us that they've rescued animals who, in turn, rescued them.

What do you think? Have you had experiences with an animal who has chosen to be part of your life, perhaps to adopt you? Is there a special animal who had a spiritual purpose for choosing to be with you?

I got Frankie, my male orange cat, who is now 2 1/2 in May, 2006. I had to choose between he and another kitten. From February, 2006 until April, when I found him, I was drawn to finding a male orange kitten, even in the midst of a very long work weeks of 65 hours. Let's say I was driven to find him.

He was and is wonderful. When I first got him we played and played and he comforted me through two difficult times. Then one year after I had got him, we were on our way to the vet's for his first booster shots, along with my older cat Willa. The cage broke and Frankie fell out and ran into the woods.
I conducted a 6 1/2 month search morning and evening, placed 150 posters brightly colored on telephone polls in two towns, and past out 650 flyers at homes.

I prayed and prayed to God I would get him back and cried, a lot of times, alone and uncontrollably. But somehow I just knew that he loved me as much as I loved him and I would get him back. He was meant to be my cat.

Well, on the evening before Christmas eve on December 23, 2007, we received a call from someone who had found a very thin cat, who had been hurt probably in a fight and had fed him and managed to get him inside. They had had him for 1 week. When I got to their home it was my Frankie.

He has been back home now, happy again and clearly happy to be home. He looks at me with his gold eyes and speaks. He is absolutely one of my best friends in life. He totally understands me. He is a gift from God.

I think that my current dog pal, Casey, has chosen to be with me. My last dog, Teddie, was about 14 years old, and I knew that we didn't have much time left together anymore, as her health wasn't the best. One relative thought that her dog was having puppies, and I told her that I'd like one. That didn't work out, and another relative thought she had one for me to adopt, but that didn't work out either. My husband and I looked at various rescue organizations, but they didn't have any dogs. My son and I saw that our local kennel had Golden Retriever puppies for sale. I asked for the smallest female. We played with her, and she undid my son's laces. We really liked her, but needed to convince my husband that she would fit in with our family. I took my daughter to meet her also, and she charmed her, too. About two weeks went by, and I was convinced that some other family probably took her home. My husband went to another adoption place, and once again, no puppies were available. I asked him to please meet this puppy that I liked so much. He said he would, if only to keep me from mentioning it again. Well, he met her, and we took her home to our house! That was in September, and by January, my older dog, Teddie, had passed away. I think Teddie knew that she had left her family in good paws. My husband and I our empty-nesters, but we have our devoted, furry "kid" Casey. I think that she was meant to be with our family.

I have come to believe that each of the animals in my life came to me for a reason. In some cases, one step one way or the other would have meant that we missed each other, and our meetings seemed to be a coincidence. But later I came to know the reason for each animal's presence in my life, and my presence in theirs. 8 State Kate (an Australian Cattle Dog) was rescued after Hurricane Katrina, and we crossed paths at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center, where rescued animals were taken to be cared for. I believe that Kate rescued me as much as I rescued her. The story of our journey is told in my new book, "8 State Hurricane Kate: The Journey and Legacy of a Katrina Cattle Dog". The stories of how my dogs Bandit and Chase each came to me are also told in the book. So you see, I've given this topic a lot of thought!

I truly believe that our special fur babies are sent to us from God. I lost my heart kitty that was only 3 years old in April 2007. I have had kitties my entire life, but this one was so special. I also have his Brother, Kahlua, who was heart broken when his brother left us.
In April, I went to the local shelter and there was a 7 month old tabby (who looks a little like my angel). I kept being drawn to her cage. There was just something that told me to bring her home. I adopted her, named her Sweet Pea and she has bonded with Kahlua. She has recently even started doing some of the quirky little things that my Turbo did. I am convinced he is telling her what to do and that he has accepted her.
I don't belive in coincidences...for all things there is a reason and a higher power.

My husband had a possum that was given to us as a baby and his name was Percy. My husband adored Percy and he quickly became part of our animal family. He tragically died about 3 years ago breaking my husband's heart (it took 2 years before he could even talk about Percy). This year on the same weekend (if not the same day) another rescued possum named Madeline came into our lives. She was rescued from a dead mother on the side of the road. My husband was thrilled. It was if she was waiting to come into our family. Almost as if Percy has come back home...

Here is Sweet Pea's story, she IS definitely a spiritual soul for my mom.

My mom is 82 years old and is in a wheelchair.

Growing up, we had many many dogs and cats, of which my mother tolerated. She was never particular to any of them.

After a divorce, I came down to Florida to help my parents, my dad is 86 and had been taking care of my mom by himself for 7 years!! Talk about devotion!!

I have 2 Pomeranians, well my mom soon fell in LOVE with them. She wanted them to sit on her lap all day. They love her but they didn't want to stay with her all day.

I told her that I would get her, a dog of her own. At which time my father said No, no more dogs!!

I just kept looking at the ads in the paper for pomeranians. Then one day an ad jumped out at me,it was for blk/wht pom, I called and spoke to the person who had placed the ad. She said the dog was a rescue and needed lots of patience and love, I told her that would not be a problem as I had rescued dogs my entire life.

When I arrived at the womens house she proceeded to put a blk/wht fluffy & shaking little dog on my lap!! The dog licked my chin, well that sealed it!!

When I got home my mom was taking a nap so not to disturb her I put the still shaking and scared dog on her bed. A few minutes later my mom was laughing so loud, She fell in love with her dog and they have been inseparable since.

I know that this dog was meant for my mom, when I saw the ad I told my dad that I was going to see the dog, well he never said a word!!

The person lived off of a street named Countrywide and we live off of a street called Countryside!!

The women approximated the dogs age and gave it a birthday of Oct 5th, when I saw that, I told the women "God must have sent me" here, she looked a little strangely at me and asked why did I think that, I told her because Oct 5th is the day I was also born.

That little blk/wht shaking and scared pom, is no longer!!

She has blossomed with the love and care that my mother has bestowed on her.

She is a loving and caring little soul that just melts your heart when you see her. My mom now lives in a nursing home, her Sweet Pea visits her mom every day. She not only has warmed my moms heart but all the other residents as well.

In October 2004, I had to make a very difficult decision to put my very best kitty friend Panda to sleep. Panda was 16 years old and had been by my side through a very painful divorce and other life challenges. Panda had gotten cancer and I remember feeling just sick inside to make the decision to help my friend be out of pain. I cried so hard my head hurt saying good-bye to her. Panda was the one constant that I could always count. A friend called me after I had left the vet and advised that I should stop by Meow Cat Rescue just to see who was there. I admit I was dreading the idea of going home without my beloved friend. I walked in and saw all adorable kitties in cages. I then walked into the "roaming room", where a little black and white fluff ball kitten waddled up to me after he had gotten a bite of food, proceeded to circle my legs and look up at me. I sat down with him and said "Who are you?" He purred and got in my lap!!! I then noticed another black and white short haired kitten coming over to us and found out they were brothers!! Their names were Lewis and Clark. I yelled out to the front and said, "I have found my kitties!" Ran home and got my carrier. I changed their names to Lou and PJ (Panda Junior) and they made my grief easier because they were with me. Every day I laugh out loud and these two! I know with all my heart, that Panda was a part of the guidance for Lou to pick me. Both of these divine creatures comfort me when I am sad, lonely or scared. They are truly my best friends and I know that there was divine intervention to match us up. Now when I asked Lou "Who are you", I think he would say, "I am Lou and I here with my brother PJ to love you!" They are such angels!!!
