Angel Dogs with a Mission in the Bookstores

Our Angel Dogs with a Mission book launch was a wonderful, successful, and fun event. The Borders Book and Music in Minnetonka set up a nice, cozy spot for the attendees with plenty of room for a book display.
We created color posters of dogs in the book and had them displayed for the event. We appreciated all who attended. Rebecca Kragnes and her dog Zane shared information about guide dogs. Rebecca's story "The Little Mother Who Saved My Life" is featured in Angel Dogs with a Mission.
When authors speak and sign books at a bookstore, it's like giving a party and wondering if anyone will come. Sometimes they are dismal affairs that are affected by bad weather (nobody wants to drive) and good weather (nobody wants to be indoors). Overall, we've been very fortunate to have the support of animal lovers and friends
who turn out for our events. We are very grateful. And it's most fun of all when dogs are there.
One little dog, Trina, came with her person who shared the dog's mission. Trina was a dog nobody wanted. She was considered to be deformed because she has five legs with two little right front legs. This causes her to limp. But after Trina was adopted, she learned to be a therapy dog. She visits nursing homes, bringing joy and hope to people. Her physical disability doesn't keep her from enjoying life and spreading the love.
It was a real treat to watch Trina with her little therapy jacket on, limping around the store, and sitting quietly while we told stories of other dogs.

If you were to write a book about a special dog, what would your title be?
NEW: Exciting news for us. Animal Planet's show, Dogs 101, is doing a reenactment of one of the stories from ANGEL DOGS: Divine Messengers of Love. The story is about Cpl. J.R., a Jack Russell terrier who made sure a fallen soldier would not be forgotten. The show airs on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (10-25, 26, 27). Click here for exact ET times http://gd/4F3A

My book about a special dog is called “8 State Hurricane Kate: The Journey and Legacy of a Katrina Cattle Dog”. The book is about an old cattle dog who was lost after Katrina, with no ID or known address. I was in Louisiana in September 2005 helping care for rescued animals. When I first met Kate in a large barn full of rescued dogs, I noticed her right away because I had cattle dogs at home. I didn’t go down there to get a dog. I had flown down from Minnesota, planning to help care for rescued animals, then fly back home. But I ended up driving home with Kate to foster her and care for her until her original family could be found. She would not have survived a shelter situation.
The book is about my experiences caring for lost Katrina animals at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales, LA, Kate’s journey and recovery after Katrina, my search for her lost family, and how people all over the country and the world came together to support Kate. Because of Kate, a network of people came together to help rescue dogs across this country. Kate changed my life in many ways and led me to many new friends. I don’t want her to ever be forgotten. I founded the 8 State Kate Fund in her name, to provide financial relief for animals in desperate situations. Over 50% of book profits go to the 8 State Kate Fund. Linda and Allen, I will be doing a book signing and fundraiser for Safe Hands Animal Rescue in Minneapolis on November 16th. Safe Hands (http://safehandsrescue.org/) was founded by a group of people who cared for rescued animals in Mississippi after Katrina. After returning home to Minnesota, they continued their work here.
You can learn more about Kate and her journey at www.8StateKate.net">www.8StateKate.net . Kate was an amazing old dog who struggled to recover from her Katrina ordeal and adapt to a new environment in Minnesota. She bonded with me and taught me so much about dogs and about life.
I look forward to reading your new book!
