Could animals know much more than we realize?
DO ANIMALS UNDERSTAND?
Do animals have feelings? Do they understand what we are saying? Are they sentient beings? What silly questions to ask, you might be saying.
But believe it or not, there are still people around who don't know the answers -- or maybe, they don't want to know. Saying yes to any of those questions would change everything.
Linda has recently started a new physical exercise program. But she didn't know she'd be getting encouragement from our cat Cuddles.
While Linda worked at her computer, Cuddles, our black-and-white kitty, started doing a funny little exercise that looked like sit-ups. Several times in succession, she stretched her hind legs with little white paws up to her ears. The sight of Cuddles doing stomach crunches made Linda laugh.
Later, Linda told Allen about the cat's sit-ups while Cuddles lounged nearby. Linda asked, "Cuddles, would you show Daddy your new exercise?"
Without hesitation, Cuddles rolled over on her back. Then she demonstrated both her agility as well as the fact that she had understood Linda's request and was happily complying by showing off. We laughed at the sight of our cat doing a workout.
Could animals know much more than we realize? What goes through their minds as they listen to our conversations and observe our weirdly human behavior?
